Default Sherwood Forest review

Sherwood Forest Paintball
Vallejo, CA 94503
www.paintballforest.com

Some facts i focus on
- Right next to huge new residential area.
- 2 woods fields, 1 hyper & 1 air for recball.
- Xball field available all day for walk-ons/scrims.
- BYOP or buy a case for $60
- Field orders pizza for lunch

My review - *EDITED*
Just went there Sunday (4/23/06) so i'm updating my review.

Good location, just a few minute drive off the freeway and you're there. Popular place, too; some people come from as far north as Redding and as far south as Fresno to play there. The average player turn-out is pretty big, which can be both good & bad, depending on the field played.

The two woods fields are pretty big, so the average speedballer might get bored with the slower pace. It isn't as slow as a scenario game (since Sherwood times the games - 15 min +/-) but for those used to airball, 15 minutes feels more like 15 days. But no worries because the Xball field is available all day. And for those craving a challenge, a few pro players are regulars in the off-season - a couple guys from Dynasty, Ironmen and/or Assassins seem to always be there. Lots of local teams play there, too. Next (or New?) Generation & the Fighting C0cks where there this past Sunday.

Staff is pretty friendly but a lot of times i question the abilities of the refs. Granted, it's hard to see the whole field with trees in the way & with how big they are (talking about the recball fields) but they don't put much effort into it - they just hang out on the sidelines. No different this past weekend. The refs were still too laid back to be properly reffing. One ref was sitting on an entirely different field while watching one game so he could only see one corner of this big woods field. The ref on Xball didn't stop people on the sidelines from calling out positions & telling players when to move. Coaching is one thing but what they were doing was flat-out helping players to cheat. He didn't even break up a fight between 2 players at the end of one game - another player had to step in to stop it.

There's a lot of places to eat at lunch, if you don't want to stay for the pizza. McDonald's (ew), Jack in the Box, 7-11, Safeway, etc... you won't go hungry and you'll definitely find something you like.

Overall, good place to check out at least once - newbs & scenario buffs will enjoy the rec fields while the tourney-minded will like the Xball field. Just be mindful that the refs are there just for looks.:glare:

Yep, cheating = bad. So far i haven't come across any cheaters while reffing but i'm hoping i'll handle it professionally.

Good review, have you posted on pbreview.com?

I would highly encourage you do. Also, if refs are ever that bad talking to them/manager wouldn't be a bad idea either. Letting them know you plan on posting on pbreview.com and such might also have an impact on their performance...if it really leaves that much to be desired.

(not saying to go around threatening everyone with "bad reviews," but it's a good tool)

Yep, right next to Jungle. I've never played at Jungle, though. Recently, i've been going to WAP or Davis PB, since i live closer to those fields.

Ghost - i've posted a review on pbr a long time ago. I should go update that, too.
